This temporary visa is tailored for parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens settled in Australia. It grants a two-year stay, and after this period, parents can apply for the permanent Contributory Parent Visa subclass 143.

This visa application can be made from inside or outside Australia, without provision for a bridging visa. The primary eligibility criteria include:

  1. Sponsorship Requirement: Must be sponsored by an eligible child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. The sponsorship needs approval from the Department of Home Affairs.

  2. Balance of Family Test: Applicant’s children must fulfill the balance of family test, where at least half or more of the applicant’s children are permanent residents or citizens of Australia settled in the country.

  3. Assurance of Support: The applicant must pay an assurance of support before visa approval, requested by the Department when necessary.

  4. Exclusion of Subclass 870 Visa: Applicants must not have applied for or hold a subclass 870 visa.
